Menstrual Cup 2024: The honest guide we all need
Hello, friend! Welcome to Anaissa's Blog
If you've made it this far, you're probably thinking about making the switch to a menstrual cup or you already have one and want to get the most out of it. Whatever your case, we're here to accompany you on this journey towards a more conscious and sustainable menstruation.
What exactly is a menstrual cup and why is it changing our lives?
The menstrual cup is a small ally made of medical silicone that collects (but does not absorb) our menstrual flow. It is reusable for years, which not only saves us money, but also protects our planet. It is freedom in its purest form!
How to insert a menstrual cup step by step
- Before first use, sterilize the cup by boiling it in water for 5-10 minutes.
- Find a comfortable position: squatting, sitting on the toilet or with one leg supported.
- Fold it (use the C-fold or whatever you prefer) and gently insert it. Relax and breathe.
- Once inside, the cup will open creating a secure seal. Gently twist it to make sure it is in place.
How to choose your menstrual cup size
Menstrual cups come in different sizes depending on your flow and whether you have had vaginal births:
- Size S: Light to moderate flow, no vaginal deliveries.
- Size M: Heavy flow or after vaginal births.
If in doubt, start with size S.
Care and pampering for your glass
- During your period: wash it with water and neutral soap every time you empty it.
- Between cycles: sterilize it for 5 minutes in boiling water and store it in its cotton bag.
- Make sure the ventilation holes are clean.
